STS and CAMTEK PACIFIC have united as partners in a new enterprise under the name of "STS-Camtek".

Our partnership was initiated following the acquisition of CAMTEK LIMITED by Vero International in the UK. Since we are now both selling CAD/CAM software from the same UK developer-supplier, our union was seen to be mutually beneficial for both our Companies and our customers. We represent a number of quality CAD/CAM software solutions including: KeyCreator, Machining STRATEGIST, PEPS and Vero. A Primary focus for our future is the expansion of Expert CAD/CAM Applications for Australia and Internationally.

The evolution of CAMTEK PACIFIC's Expert CAD/CAM Applications

CAMTEK PACIFIC is a recognised leader in the Australian CAM industry. The company is particularly well known for creative involvement in the development and distribution of Expert CAM Systems locally and internationally. The Expert CAD/CAM system was initiated at DIECRAFT Australia in 1980s.

Diecraft has a long history world class toolroom in Australia. Mill Expert was developed at Diecraft for the automatic machining of Tupperware injection moulds, large and small die plates, unit parts and outriggers. Said Graham Malcolm, the DIECRAFT production services manager at that time, "The system covers all mould frame manufacturing. The programming time is cut by 90 percent. The quality of part programs is superb, programs go into unmanned machining without a trial run. The multipallet machining centre is working non stop and it works unattended during night shifts and weekends." Mill Expert was adapted at Fisher & Paykel Production Machinery division (NZ) and is covering all their production CAM requirements for more than 10 years by now.

Expert Knowledge-Based feature oriented CAM solutions were revolutionary for it's time and other CAM developers around the world are only now getting close to the level of automation CAMTEK PACIFIC was delivering 20 years ago.

Today CAMTEK PACIFIC's Mill Expert solutions have developed further to become Expert Knowledge Based CAD/CAM Applications. Over recent years CAMTEK PACIFIC has expanded the Expert CAD/CAM Applications into different manufacturing sectors. Expert Applications are used by companies, big and small, manufacturing hydraulic and pneumatic manifolds, furniture and kitchen cabinets, special seals, plastic tools, die cutters, millturn parts.

STS-Camtek is currently seeking business opportunities for introducing it's Expert CAD/CAM Applications to other industry sectors and widening its usage in existing ones.

Expert CAD/CAM Applications efficiently delivers an affordable system solution. Following the initial R&D Phase of each customer’s project, there are typically only five parts to the final solution:

• Part(s) Data Input, typically a CAD drawing, model, list of materials or a spreadsheet.
• The library of manufacturing parts, feature definitions and their machining methods.
• The Data Base of Part Materials, Cutting Tools and Cutting parameters.
• The Expert CAD/CAM Application Software.
• The library of 100% perfect post processors.

How the Expert CAD/CAM Applications work:

Once the boundaries and substance of the relevant manufacturing process are understood, the "Knowledge Base", or underlying database, is agreed and developed. During the R&D stage all factors that impact on the machining technology requirement are established, quantified and entered as fundamental data.

This data can subsequently be edited, modified, extended or deleted as necessary with the acquisition of further knowledge over time.

The "Manufacturing System" section is the Machining Procedure Generator (or Brain) of the system. Here decisions are made on the fly using the Knowledge Base, together with number of industry specific criteria and variable user inputs that impact on the successful outcome of a manufacturing process.

The Expert NC-CNC code applies the company's proven machining methods and is suited 100% the company's machinery. Rigorous decision making processes eliminate the human element and delivers optimised best practice machining every time. The factors included in decision making include: different product materials, their hardnesses and machinability, different cutting tool materials, their stiffness, allowable stresses, expected deflections under varying load conditions, directions of cut, cutting speeds and feeds, need for and use of coolants of various types, etc.
